Full Employment History

National Milk Records, Chippenham

·           Current position: Senior Web developer (since November 2001).  Support and development of corporate web-site and Intranet, and in-house Windows software.

·           Whilst in Software Solutions (from joining NMR in March 1998, to November 2001 when the division was closed), I worked as Senior Analyst Programmer on a variety of projects, including:

·           www.grainman.co.uk - on an online trading site for major international grain-trading company, including a seed shop.  The site allows farmers to find the best price for grain, by matching against available contracts and adjusting for haulage costs.  Running on the standard Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Ecommerce platform of ASP, VBScript, Javascript, VB6 MTS components, XML/XSL, SQL Server 7.0, IIS and Site Server 3.0 Commerce, the site uses LDAP to control access and security.

·           Senior Visual Basic 6.0 developer in the ABM team, responsible for the application architecture and user-interface design.  The software is a data-capture and reporting system, with Visual Basic presentation and business object layers, and a SQL Server 7.0 database back-end.

·           Senior Visual Basic 5.0 developer in the impelPRO Team, responsible for application architecture and user-interface design.  impelPRO is a shrink-wrapped .On Farm. management and reporting tool.  It passed the Windows NT / 98 Logo test on its first submission, and launched in July 1999.

·           Input regarding user interface design across projects, and coding standards for ASP/HTML & VB.

·           .Mentoring. and encouragement of junior colleagues, one of whom attained MCSD status.

Sage Engineering, Bath

·           Development of 32-bit Visual Basic applications, Excel Spreadsheets, general code for the company and other developers in the team; Visual User Interface design consultant.

·           Technical Analysis and development of a system for laboratory data capture, using existing Excel form designs, storing the data in Access 7.0, and exporting in industry standard AGS format.

·           Analysis of Engineering problems and development/maintenance of Microsoft Excel 7.0 spreadsheet solutions. Developed VB and MS Office OLE code to enhance corporate applications.

MVM Consultants, Clifton

·           Development of Geographic Information System (GIS) OLE Server products for the company.s 20/20 suite of Local Authority Planning applications.  These are written largely in Oracle Forms, which did not support 32-bit custom controls.  These 32-bit VB 4.0 servers use RDO to Oracle 7.

·           Development and maintenance of a dynamic SQL builder, driven by a configuration database, to allow a database and data structure independent Gazetteer for the GIS.

Interests

My main interest lies in music, and I take singing lessons as a baritone.  I particularly enjoy singing Lieder, and also 18th and 19th century Italian and Russian opera.  I took part in four recent productions by amateur group Bath Opera, and also sing in our Orthodox Church choir and play drums in a jazz band.  I enjoy learning foreign languages, outdoor pursuits and playing tennis.
